Dr Susan M. Philpin
Biography
My teaching and research expertise and interests are underpinned by my clinical experience in both hospitals and the community and my academic background in sociology and anthropology. I am a collaborator on the Older People and Ageing R&D network (OPAN Cymru). My research interests focus on health care provision, including patients’ and carers’ experiences; I have been successful in obtaining research funding in these areas. I have experience in qualitative research methods including ethnographic and interview studies. My teaching areas include under-graduate and post-graduate courses in: sociology of health and illness, health and social care of older people and research methods. I also provide research supervision at undergraduate and post-graduate levels and contribute to staff development in research. I examine PhD and doctoral theses. I am an external examiner for Adult Nursing for the Queens University Belfast.
